August 2012 Giveaway: Burda Easy Spring Summer 2012

Seeing as the Northern hemisphere is still in throes of warmth and light (and sweet Golden Olympic Glory) and this magazine has just hit the shelves in Australia (no, the irony is not lost on me) I thought it would be a good choice for this month’s Giveaway. Seriously though, it has some really nice pieces (and everything starts from size 34 so those of you that are normally forced to grade down Burda patterns can rejoice already). So let’s get into it.

This being Burda Easy, every garment displayed has the corresponding patterns included (unlike the regular Burda where the thing you’ve most coveted and battled-over the issue for on Evilbay, turns out to be some ready to wear piece that they may or may not rip off in a future issue).

I really like these pants, and the bubble skirt (I have a known jelly-kneed weakness for those), in fact it was Magic Baobabs consecutive makes with that pattern and the included top pattern (montage 2, centre) that really drew my attention to this issue. The unifying feature of these simple patterns is their ability to form the perfect blank canvas for some awesome-sauce special fabric.

Reading and sewing and shit like that..

There’s a section on PanAm style, the featured dress also has a woven t-shirt style top option (that’s the one Magic Baobab used for her Butterfly top linked above).

Drinking and other Mod stuff.

There’s also a turned up version of the scallop-hemmed shorts and an awesome woven-fabric sweatshirt pattern in the pullover style (far right), that would really rock made up in fancy tweed or herringbone with contrast lining for the hood. Zipper-front variation of the same on the left.

Wearing a pullover in the fake tropics.

There are also Lederhosen (Oktoberfest hipster, take me now!), bandeau tops, a key hole front strapless jersey dress (keepin’ it classy), stretch leggings with Grandpa-jacket style templates over the knees, a boring regular skirt and a crazy drawstring backpack. Experience the whole she-bang in French here. The magazine I’m giving away is in German (which is neither here nor there given Burda’s awesome ‘instructions’).

  1. Just wanted to say, your review cracked up again. I’m not entering, just commenting to say thanks:))

  2. Take pity on me…. We may be home to the swimming Missile but you can’t get Burda for love nor money in this town! I’m going to subscribe – which is heaps cheaper than over the counter – but I have to wait til next issue!!

  3. I picked this up whilst I was in Italy in April so I don’t want to take part in the giveaway, but I thought I stop by and offer my 2 Eurocents.
I made the red top which is on the right-hand side of the first set of pictures a few months ago. The fabric was too shiny and slippery for my skill level at the time, but the top is a lovely construction and comes together easily despite the many pattern pieces.

I like Burda Easy because you don’t have to do the mad tracing, and because I quite like the style of the garments apart from the skirts / dresses always being very short. But that’s probably just me showing my age, I have the same complaint when I go to the “yoof” clothing shops, like Top Shop or New Look. At least with the magazine I am spared the loud horrid dance music!

  4. I would LOVE to win the burda magazine! I’ve never had one and it’s insanely hot where I live right now so those styles would be perfect. Also ich kann etwas deutsch lesen! (That might not be perfect but it’s been awhile.) Danke!

  5. Oh, I’ve never heard of Burda Easy before. Interesting! Would love to be in the draw for it – thanks. :-)

  6. while I’d probably rejoice at anything described as easy, they’re all far to youthful for me. Which means, I guess, that I’m just joining in the chorus of, “thank you for the hilarious review” and please don’t stop!

  7. Oddly enough I haven’t seen a Burda Easy on the newstands here in NZ. Burda and Burda Plus yes but not Easy. Slightly annoying because there are oftentimes good pieces in them. Oh well. That being said I’ve a sewing list the length of my arm and its cold here right now so thanks for the cool giveaway but please don’t put my name into the hat for it.

      • Oh did they? Bugger if they have closed but then I don’t get there too much. Will send spies forthwith to check it out.

PS I sent a wee package to you last week. Let me know if it survives the NZ-Aus postal services and arrives.

        • Sorry it was the one in Auckland that closed. I.e. the Welly one might still be around (or it mightn’t even be Magnation that I’m thinking about in Welly). They’re saying they’ll re-open in Auckland at some point so might want to keep an eye out. Also, real life mail! Cool thanks! I’m excited-will let you know when it gets here!

  8. Ooh count me in, I have never seen burda easy, and lately can’t seem to find burda at all :( . I’d make the pan am three tone dress. Very pretty, look forward to meeting you in Melbourne!

  9. I am midway through deciphering through my first Burda magazine! It’s like a ruddy different language… maybe i’ll feel better after I’ve completed my first project.

It’s all about the casual right now.. long, well fitted shirts and vests over leggings and lovely jubbly accessories!

  10. I just adore your burgandy top on the recent post. I’d like to throw my name into the drawing too. I’ve never seen a Burda magazine, let alone Burda Easy, but would be fun to try!

  11. Being in the Southern Hemisphere I am craving this issue of Burda very much. I am dreading the German bit though, but as you said, Burda is not know for their comprehensive instructions, so it just may be for the best!

How's it going? If you've got a question please read the post first.
