Burda August 2012

This arrived today (full disclosure: I only bought it because of this dress). The full browse-through is here (along with full browse-throughs of every issue including all of the Burda Easy and Burda Plus Specials) since late 2006. Issues prior to that can be found here (this is a link to an unofficial Russian fan site sewing forum archive so please exercise the caution you would in any other Internet dark alley).

Speaking of dark alleys I just had my first Troll attack (according to the Air Force, a troll is “A hurtful, but possibly valuable, person who, for whatever reason, is both obsessed by and constantly annoyed with, and deeply offended by everything you write..“). While this is hilarious on many levels (a lack of spelling and grammar checks being top of the list), a quick look at this individual’s feed statistics in Google Reader (he/ she doesn’t exist on BlogLovin’) revealed this:

So this poor unfortunate assumed I’d respond with a linked blog post and send some readers their way. Since I don’t engage with personal attacks in any forum (rule numero uno of dog-training according to Caesar the magnificent – Don’t encourage bad behaviour) and completely agree with Seth Godin’s position on Trolls, there is only one thing to say:

And now if you’ll excuse me, I have some serious catching-up to do.

  1. Thank you for the compliment on my dress! I bet yours will be an absolute blinder of a beauty!

In the spirit of your post, I won’t mention The Other Thing.

  2. only 199 unread? I *must* do some catching up, or cull my subscriptions! I have a questionable habit of going through periods of adding new blogs and getting terrribly behind. I did the same with another Burda last month – bought it for a single pattern – a top in my case. It makes it great when you can see someone else’s make first. I remember a comment from you somewhere about pressing tools – did you ever end up with a pressing ham?

    • hahaha that’s what the ‘mark all as read’ button is for! No, I don’t have a ham yet-it’s like 70+ dollars at Spotlight (and probably stuffed with the ground up bones of repressed Chinese dissidents to boot). I was thinking of making one but I didn’t get around to it and now I misuse the edge of the ironing board instead. XD

  3. Humm, I think WordPress brings out the trolls. I have an infestation of them I think and they leave me scratching my head…don’t they have better things to do?

  4. WordPress does a bang-up job of filtering comments doesn’t it? I have mine set so that I have to approve the first comment from any poster, and then they have free reign after that. On top of that, it seems to know who’s trolling without me even having to read them so I don’t have to burn my retinas reading garbage ^___^

That BurdaStyle dress is so YOU! I can’t wait to see what you do with it! :D

  5. I like the dress you chose. It is on my to do list too, as is the top on the frontpage. Looking forward to your result!
As for trolls, they are every annoying. As you suggest I mark them spam and delete. Unfortunately there are people like that and well I pity them. They are just part of life, just as junkmail on paper :-(

    • Thanks! Yea I met a sewist during a social gathering today and she was saying how she didn’t want to blog because of the trolling. I explained how my experience online has been very good on the whole and that there are various ways to block that type of individual. It’s a bit sad that people let that sort of thing put them off because in my experience the online sewing community is generally pretty cool, but it is what it is.

How's it going? If you've got a question please read the post first.
